When exploring God in self-development for Muslims, it’s easy to overlook what truly matters: worshiping Allah. As Muslims, we believe our ultimate purpose is to obey Allah, align our actions with His guidance, and refrain from what He has forbidden.
1. He is Your Creator – Can Give You Guidance
Connecting with God in self-development for Muslims means relying on His guidance to understand your unique strengths. We have all been crafted and created by God. There is a particular way he made all of us for a specific reason he has granted us certain strengths all for a purpose. Allah says
“Did you then think that We had created you without purpose, and that you would never be returned to Us?” {Quran 23:115}
Since He created us, He knows us better than anyone else. He understands why we are the way we are and knows the best ways to use our qualities in fulfilling our purpose. On your inner work journey, connecting with God and following His guidance helps you live a fulfilled and aligned life.
2. He Can Make anything happen
Allah is AR-RAZZAAQ (The Provider). He can provide you with everything you need to succeed in your journey. Every tool or resource you require comes from Allah, who is Al-Aleem (The All-Knowing).
Sometimes, we doubt ourselves because we don’t feel we have enough. Remember, Allah can give you everything necessary to prosper. Make dua and ask Him for the knowledge to use those blessings wisely.
3. It Allows You to Remember The Afterlife
When working on inner self-development, it’s easy to focus only on this life and forget about the afterlife. This life is a test, and one day, we will account for how we spent our time.
”O believers! Do not let your wealth or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. For whoever does so, it is they who are the ˹true˺ losers.” – Quran 63.9
By remembering God in self-development, Muslims can align their goals with acts of worship. For instance, building a business to support your family and help others can become an act of ibadah. This approach prevents you from losing focus and ensures you stay connected to Allah, the source of all blessings.
4. Helps With Detachment
This ties in very well with the last point. When we remember the after life, we tend to detach from worldly affairs. Although we care about our goals, we don’t become overly attached to outcomes. Life is temporary, so we focus on doing our best for what’s to come in the hereafter. We make dua leave it in his hands and no matter what happens we turn it into something that can just bring us closer to Allah.
5. Contentment
A lot of people who reach a place in life where they feel like they’ve pretty much got everything seem to always fall into this pit of depression. This is because they’re not connected to things that truly matter in life. Although worldly pleasures bring temporary joy, they cannot provide ultimate contentment. There is nothing wrong with enjoying this life, it’s just important that it isn’t at the expense of your afterlife. Making sure you remember God and appreciate everything he has granted you, allows you to live a life of contentment and peace as you’re not constantly seeking external things to keep you happy.
